What is Clearing?

Clearing is a period within the UCAS application cycle where applicants without an offer to study at University, can apply for courses where there is availability. This period begins in July and ends in October.

At City St George's (Tooting), the Clearing operation will commence from Monday 7 July and will likely finish by Friday 12 September.

Why apply to be a Clearing Agent?

In undertaking a role as a Clearing Agent, you will have the opportunity to:

  • support the university during this crucial period in processing applications
  • speak to applicants and their supporters during an uncertain time
  • develop a variety of skills such as customer service, problem solving and communication
  • work with a variety of individuals and teams from across the University.

This period can be an uncertain time for applicants who find themselves without an offer to study and our Clearing Agents will be trained to provide information, reassurance and guidance to those who are interested in studying at City St George's (Tooting campus).

Available roles
We will be recruiting *'Early Clearing Agents' and 'Main Clearing Agents'.

The difference between these two roles is that Early Clearing Agent training and shifts will commence in July and they will also take on a supervisory role during Main Clearing (from A Level results day).

Both Early and Main Clearing agents will play a role in ensuring applications are processed appropriately, communicate with applicants, or work directly with the Tooting Campus Admissions Team.

Both roles will require on-site attendance for the first three days of Main Clearing, which are compulsory shifts for all candidates who are successful and accept the role. Other shifts are likely to take place remotely.

Please refer to the job descriptions below before applying:

Hybrid working

These roles offer hybrid working - a mixture on in-person and remote training and shifts.

The main on-site requirement for Clearing Agent roles is for the first three main days of Clearing:

  • Thursday 14 August 2025
  • Friday 15 August 2025
  • Saturday 16 August 2025

Any additional shifts that are allocated (with the exception of the above dates) will be offered on a remote basis.

If you would like to apply for a Clearing Agent role, but you have concerns about being able to travel to site on the required dates, please still apply and we will consider possible arrangements for supporting successful candidates.

Who can apply?

Applications are open to current City St George's students who are studying at the Tooting Campus.

FInal year students are welcomed to apply as long as their expected availibilty aligns with the requirements of the role.

Unfortuantely, if you are studying MBBS and are entering T-year or F-year in 2025/26, we will not be able to consider you for these roles. If you are entering P-Year it will not be possible to apply for an Early Clearing Agent role, but you can apply for a Main Clearing Agent role. This is due to clashes with your expected teaching/clinical placements.

How to apply

Applications will close on Monday 19 May (11.59pm). Please note the earlier deadline above for those wish to apply for the Early Clearing Agent role. Interested candidates can apply via the green buttons at the top of this page.

Candidates should be aware that there are specific working dates that will need to be agreed to upon taking up an offer for a Clearing Agent role, as well as hybrid working arrangements (combination of in-person and remote working).
