DECISION Study

The DECISION study is an exciting research project evaluating the effectiveness of what are known as ‘Mental Health Decision Units’ (Decision Units), funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR). These units are hospital-based and primarily offer further assessment for people in a mental health crisis to decide whether an inpatient admission or discharge to community mental services is appropriate. While local evaluations have proved encouraging, DECISION is the first national, comprehensive study of their effectiveness.
