Hussein Al-Rubaye always wanted to become a doctor in order to help other people. Originally from Iraq, Hussein graduated with an Intercalated BSc and will return to St George's to complete the final two years of his Medicine degree. “I am Iraqi and my family moved over here to the UK with me when I started my course. As an international student, the most important thing to me is the friendly nature of St George's and the helpfulness of the staff and students. I never felt like I was out of touch and I always felt welcome.

“I have wanted to be a doctor all my life as I want to help others and serve people. I want to have a positive impact on my surroundings. While the course is hard work, I have learnt never to be afraid of what's coming next.

“I also really love living in Tooting. The market is one of my favourite places to go and when I go to the Chinese stall, they know my regular order before I even have to say anything!”
