Joan Embola, 22, joined St George's as she wanted to study in London. Having been an active part of both the Christian Union and Dance Society while completing her Biomedical Science degree, she will be returning to St George's in September 2018 to study an MSc in Physician Associates.

“I came to St George's because I was attracted to the big city. I wanted to study in London because it was different to the small town I grew up in.

“There are so many extra opportunities that come from studying at a small university. I've had the chance to teach other students as part of my course so we are given a lot of responsibility and chances to learn new skills. I have also taught clinical skills in Widening Participation projects to children from underrepresented backgrounds to try and encourage them to think about careers in science.

“I have also loved getting involved in the societies at St George's. I'm part of the Christian Union Society and the Dance Society. One of the highlights for me so far has been a dance show we put on to raise money for charity.

“I'm looking forward to coming back to St George's in September to study for a Physician Associate Masters.”
