What is Clearing and Adjustment?
Clearing and Adjustment can sometimes be overwhelming, but this article explains what Clearing and Adjustment is and how you can navigate it.
Clearing is the process that gives applicants the option find a course at university if they have already applied through UCAS and haven’t managed to secure a place. For students who don't hold any offers, this means you can apply to universities while holding your results.
From 5 July to 23 October, you can apply whether you've received your qualifications in previous years or whether you're just receiving your results.
To be eligible to apply through Clearing you cannot hold any offers to study at any institution. If you’re in any doubt about whether you’re holding an offer, you can view this on your UCAS Track screen.
Available from the 16 August, Adjustment is for those who have exceeded an offer. For example, if your offer is AAA, you’ll need to achieve a minimum of A*AA to qualify for Adjustment.
Adjustment is voluntary, and you can elect to enter into the Adjustment process. This option is available for five 24-hour periods from the moment your offer changes from conditional firm (CF) to unconditional firm (UF).
I'm waiting for my results, can I apply now?
To apply through Clearing or Adjustment, you need to have your final results. We will then use these results to determine your eligibility. If you're waiting to receive your results, you should wait before contacting universities or making any changes to your application.
