Meet the Equity Champions:
The Equity Champions are Student Advisors with a focus on equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Equity Champions consider various student perspectives on university life and provide valuable insights to support staff in mainstreaming inclusive education.
Every Equity Champion develops their own development plan and are welcomed to attend university meetings and fora such as Diversity & Inclusion Steering Group, Race, Equality Action & Engagement Group , and Inclusive Education Forum.
Ozzy David-Uwangue: 2nd Year Occupational Therapy Student
I'm Ozzy a Student Representative for Occupational Therapy, who is interested in advocating for Disabled Students. My experience working with undergraduate and postgraduate students, in relation to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, would provide valuable insight on issues students face, and support with decision-making.
Hasan Khan: Final Year Occupational Therapy Student
My name is Hasan Khan, I am a final year Occupational Therapy student studying at St George's university. I am from South Asia: Pakistani descent with a passion to help develop the inclusivity, diversity and safety in all realms of higher education across all healthcare courses.
Natasha Wollen: Final Year Medical Student
I'm Natasha a P year medical Student currently acting as an Equity Champion for the past year. As a neurodiverse student, I feel strongly about advocating for myself and my peers regarding the challenges we face and how we may be able to overcome these from a systemic standpoint. I have previously been involved in Inclusive Education Forums, actioning issues faced by our community of disabled students. I am passionate about areas of diversification, such as tackling underrepresentation and misrepresentation of LGBTQ+ and BAME patients, staff and students.
Becky Kemp-Arnold: Final Year Medical Student
My name is Becky Kemp Arnold, and I am a St George's Equity Champion for the second year in a row. This role has allowed me to explore the meaning of inclusion at St. George's and write blog posts about ethnic diversity in leadership, disability inclusion and more. During my time as SU President in 2021-22 I gained a meaningful appreciation for the richness of culture in our community and I hope to spotlight ways we can learn from one another in the upcoming year.
Soham Patne: 2nd Year Medical Student
Hi I'm Soham a 2nd year medical student at St George’s with a keen interest in equality, diversity and inclusion. As an Equity Champion representing the student body in the university, my passion for EDI is unwavering. I am committed to fostering an inclusive campus, advocating for equality, celebrating diversity, and ensure every voice is heard.
Kiranjit Khera: Final Year Biomedical Science Student
I'm Kiranjit Khera, a final year Biomedical Science Student. My passion for being an Equity Champion stems from my experiences and reflections as a student with a hidden disability. I’ve been promoting an inclusive environment within the St George’s community. As I progress onto Medicine, I will carry forward the inclusive practices learned from being an Equity Champion.
Vaseharan Suntharan: Final Year Medical Student
Vaseharan "Vassy" Suntharan has been a true equity champion by increasing representation of cultures and ethnicities within the St George's and national curricula. Vassy's "Skin of Colour Lecture Series" attracts students nationwide, offering insights into diverse dermatological presentations. As the first in his family to pursue higher education amid homelessness, Vassy passionately advocates for increased medical school accessibility.
