Meet the Equity Champions
The Equity Champions are Student Advisors with a focus on equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Equity Champions consider various student perspectives on university life and provide valuable insights to support staff in mainstreaming inclusive education.
Every Equity Champion develops their own development plan and are welcomed to attend university meetings and fora such as Inclusive Education Monitoring and Advisory Group, Race, Equality Action & Engagement Group, and Inclusive Education Forum.

Nafisah Khan
Nafisah Khan is an equity champion at St George’s University of London with a passion for making students feel supported and have a sense of belonging. With a background in customer service, administration, community outreach, she strives to make all students feel welcome and have what they need to thrive. Her approach is centred around understanding, connection and creating a place where everyone can succeed.
Hayward Fernandes
As an Equity Champion at St. George’s University, I am committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. I am particularly passionate about mental health awareness and addressing imposter syndrome, ensuring all students feel valued and empowered. Through advocacy and student engagement, I aim to promote equity, diversity, and accessibility in education.
Meri Yemane
My name is Meri, and I am a second-year MBBS graduate student and Equity Champion at St George’s. I am passionate about promoting diversity, inclusion, and representation for underrepresented groups within education. Through my role, I aim to create meaningful change by advocating for an inclusive curriculum, facilitating student discussions, and contributing to initiatives that enhance accessibility and belonging for all students.
Ibtisam (Ibi )Ali
Hello, my name is Ibtisam (Ibi) Ali. I’m a second-year student studying BSc Occupational Therapy as well as an Equity Champion, passionate about promoting inclusivity in all spaces. I believe no one should ever feel left behind, whether due to their background, physical disabilities, or mental health challenges. There’s often a lack of understanding/stigma around disabilities or the struggles people face with their mental health, and it’s important to create spaces where everyone feels supported, regardless of what they may be going through

I'm Shereen, a first year PhD student at City St George's. I became an Equity Champion because I know how important it is to create inclusive spaces where everyone feels valued and supported. I wanted to be part of the solution by amplifying under-represented voices, embedding equity into the culture at City St George's, and creating meaningful change.

Hiya my name is Glenta and I am a 1st year Radiotherapy & Oncology student. I became an Equity Champion because I myself have faced adversity and struggles due to my racial and socioeconomic background. My aim is to encourage and inspire aspiring university students to take on the courses they desire in the cities they want with the required support
