What is EduFocus?
EduFocus provides initial and continuing professional development sessions and resources for teaching and other education staff at St George’s in a number of key priority areas for student experience and the enactment of the University’s strategic vision for Education.
EduFocus sessions are pedagogically underpinned and practically-oriented. They are designed to have clear learning outcomes for participants. Some may involve engagement with asynchronous resources pre- and/or post-session.
Although they will often use discipline-specific examples, sessions are not designed to meet programme-specific training needs and will focus on more general pedagogical thinking (for example ‘discriminating higher level thinking through SBA design’ rather than designing SBAs for medical exams).
EduFocus replaces the Online Education Exchange which was a staff development forum set up specifically in response to COVID-19. In addition, the remit of EduFocus is narrower than its previous iteration and no longer encompasses professional recognition, educational scholarship and research, OSCE training, and preparation for national teaching fellowship, though this support is still offered elsewhere in CIDE or IMBAE.
Most sessions are mapped to the Professional Standards Framework for teaching and supporting learning in Higher Education (PSF 2023). This mapping is intended to be helpful for those applying for a category of Fellowship of Advance HE, via SHINE or direct application.
Colleagues affiliated with SGUL but without SGUL logins can register for EduFocus sessions and attend online events via MS Teams.
