Interactive clinical images (ICIs) are a simple web-based tool that allow learners to annotate clinical images of any kind (such as photographs, scans, readings or charts) to identify points of interest, and then compare these with the annotations of an expert. The tool can be embedded into other online learning activities, websites or virtual patients and can be used for both group and self-directed learning.

An ICI uses HTML5 Canvas technology to provide learners with simple tools to draw or write on an image, and works with all modern desktop browsers (the tool does not currently support mobiles). Since it is simple to set up and can be embedded within other resources, ICIs can be used to support and enhance other resources as part of a sophisticated pedagogical approach.

If you wish to find out more about how you can use this tool, please contact us at the eLearning Unit.
