Head of Section, Professor Iain Greenwood

The Vascular Biology research section is a multidisciplinary research theme which brings together experts in blood vessel pharmacology, platelet biology, and cellular mechanisms that underpin heart and vessel diseases.

Our researchers are currently working on:The investigation of physiological, pathological, and pharmacological regulation of receptors, signalling pathways and ion channels in cardiovascular cells as well as visceral organs.

Understanding mechanisms of haemostasis and thrombosis, in particular platelet function and interactions with immune and endothelial cells; cell signalling.

Exploring cellular crosstalk in cardiac and vessel diseases, with a focus on endothelial-dependent regulation of tissue remodelling.

Defining novel regulators of stress-regulated signalling for adaptive and maladaptive tissue remodelling with cardiac and vascular diseases.

Defining the interaction of cells at the maternal fetal interface in normal pregnancies and those pregnancies complicated by pre-eclampsia.
