About the Centre for Neonatal and Paediatric Infection
The Centre for Neonatal and Paediatric Infection (CNPI) is a leading research institution within the Institute for Infection and Immunity at St George's, University of London. Over the past decade, the CNPI has evolved into a prominent international research group, working in collaboration with global partners and establishing itself as a global leader in paediatric infectious diseases.
The CNPI, founded by Professors Paul Heath, Mike Sharland, and Kirsty Le Doare, is dedicated to advancing paediatric infectious disease research. Their research portfolio encompasses a wide range of projects, focusing on vaccine-preventable diseases, global antibiotic resistance and prescribing, and maternal and infant infections, including Group B Streptococcus (GBS).
Research areas
The CNPI is comprised of four key research groups: The Vaccine Institute, Immunology, Epidemiology & Data, and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). These groups work collectively to advance the understanding of paediatric infectious diseases and develop innovative solutions.

Funding for the CNPI’s research comes from major bodies such as the European Union (EU), European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP), the Medical Research Council (MRC), the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), PENTA, GARDP, and various commercial partners like Pfizer and GSK.
