‘Multidisciplinary Obstetric and Midwifery Simulation’ (MOMS) Workshop - NOVEMBER2019
Early November 2019, St George’s University of London, UK – Malaysia Medical Initiative (SUMMIT) organised an obstetric emergency workshop called MOMS. SUMMIT worked collaboratively with East London Ladies International Health (ELLY) Charity and Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia to run two workshops in Lawas and Miri in Sarawak, East Malaysia. A faculty consisting of six obstetric doctors and four midwives from London, Australia and New Zealand conducted the workshop.
A total of 105 delegates comprising midwives, community nurses, Obstetric specialist and medical officers attended both workshops. The MOMS workshop consisted of a series of lectures based on MOH Malaysia and international guidelines, followed by interactive skill stations, which encouraged active participation amongst all members of the multidisciplinary team. At the end of the workshop, 31 delegates were chosen to attend ‘Train the Trainers’ course held in Hospital Miri. The faculty who are internationally acclaimed in their field are keen to offer this course annually and expand it to more hospitals and regions.

QuantuMDx Meeting in Malaysia, February 2019
SUMMIT has been working collaboratively on the point of care diagnostics for global medicine with a particular focus on infectious disease and cancer.The first initiative catalysed by this programme has been to link development of an affordable novel point of care for Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) detection for industrial development and clinical implementation in Malaysia. The developers of this device are a UK based rapidly growing and highly innovative company called QuantaMDx with whom St George’s University of London have had longstanding partnership to develop diagnostics for ‘Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs). The fruition of this collaboration is an opportunityto partner also with Malaysian led initiatives on e-health and patient self sampling through the world class ‘Pogram ROSE’ (patient self-sampling HPV screening for cervical cancer).
These development could not have been accelerated without the excellent meeting held between QuantaMDx and the Deputy Minister of International Trade Industry (MIDA), the Director of Health Malaysia , the British High Commission in Malaysia and our academic partners at University of Malaya took place in February 2019. Currently there are 2 simultaneous consolidation initiatives:1.Investments opportunities for manufacturing in Malaysia2.Development of validation studies for these diagnostic initiatives in Malaysian patient cohorts

PROGRAM ROSE, JULY 2019
SUMMIT has been supporting community healtchcare initiatives aim at the B40 cummunity inclduing ‘Program ROSE’ – Removing Obstacle to Cervical Screening (https://www.programrose.org/), patient led cervical screening for HPV. Recently, the Deputy Prime Minister Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah launched a free cervical screening sponsored by ETIQA with ‘Progam ROSE’ at her constituency, Pandan.

MALAYSIAN MP’S VISIT TO INSTITUE OF INFECTION & IMMUNITY, JULY 2019Professor Julian Ma, the Institue’s Director welcomed Malaysian Member of Parliament, YB Nurul Izzah Anwar to St George’s University of London for a talk on Molecular Pharming and a tour around the labs.

NEOART TRIAL FUNDRAISING, AUGUST 2019
Earlier in the year, St George’s Hospital Charity and the NeoART Trial hosted a ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ themed fundraiser at the Mango Tree, Belgravia. We welcomed over 100 guests for a drinks reception and delicious three course meal, a live and silent auction, a fashion show and live music from ‘Chinese Elvis’. A brilliant night was had by all and we are incredibly grateful to Eddie and Joyce Lim and their amazing team at Mango Tree for generously hosting the evening.
On the night we raised over £18,000 in support of the NeoART Trial, researching innovative cures for bowel cancer with the aim of enhancing the lives of thousands of people living with the disease. SUMMIT had the honour of meeting the newly appointed Malaysian High Commissioner to the UK, His Excellency Datuk Sadik Kethergany on Friday, 21st of June 2019. We discussed SUMMIT objectives, current and future plans to work with the Malaysian government in health care. The ambassador have also invited the team to give a talk to the ambassadors wives in the near future.

SUMMIT hosted their first Malaysian Doctors in The UK Networking Brunch at the Malaysian Education Centre, Queensborough Terrace in London. Around 40 Malaysian doctors from around the UK came to discuss the Malaysian Trainee Fellowship programme.
