Are you cyber aware, do you know how to protect your information? With more time spent online, personal and work related, it means more opportunities for hackers to carry out cyber attacks and target people and organisations. Every week there is mention of hackers hitting businesses, this is often done by using:
- email and website scams
- malware - software that can damage your device or let a hacker in.
If hackers get into your device or accounts, they could access your money, your personal information or information about the University.
To prevent this we need to put in place Cyber Security. Any guidance or advice regarding Cyber Security then contact the University Cyber Security Manager.

What is Cyber Security ?
- Cyber Security is the means by which individuals and organisations reduce the risk of being affected by cyber crime.
- Cyber Security's core function is to protect the devices we all use (smartphone, laptops, tablets and computers), and the services we access on line - both at home and work - from theft or damage, It's also about preventing unauthorised access to our personal information we store on these devices and online.
The University IT have put in place measures to protect the University managed systems and devices from an attack. One of the biggest risk to the University is the use of non-university owned devices that connect to the University resources. To mitigate this risk staff and students, who use non-university devices, are to comply with the University's Bring Your Own Device policy.

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is the government cyber security specialist centre who provide guidance on all aspects of cyber security to organisations and individuals. Specific guidance for the Academic sector can be here:
