This guidance contains basic information on who is eligible to use software made available through St George’s, University of London’s main agreements.
This information should be considered an overview of criteria for using software made available by St George’s. It is not a definitive guide to software licensing at the university.

Software use at St George's

Staff directly employed by St George’s:

may purchase software for installation on their St George’s-based work machine

may use software available on St George’s open-access machines, eg in the CRs

may obtain copies of certain software packages for installation on a work laptop or other portable device, or a personal (home) machine, where the software must be used exclusively for work purposes.
Students registered on courses at St George’s:

may use software available on St George’s open-access machines, eg in the CRs

may NOT purchase Microsoft software packages via St George’s for installation on their personal machines

may purchase copies of some of the other St George’s software packages, such as IBM SPSS Statistics, for installation on their personal machines, subject to certain conditions.
Staff working at St George’s but not directly employed by the university:

may use software available on any St George’s-based machine but only for the purpose(s) for which they have been engaged by the university

may NOT use software available on St George’s-based machines for the purposes of their employing institution or any other external organisation for which they work

may NOT obtain software via St George’s for installation on a personal (home) machine or laptop

may NOT obtain software via St George’s for installation on machines or laptops owned by their employing institution or any other external organisation.
Staff employed solely by NHS trusts or NHS organisations:

may NOT purchase software made available through St George’s agreements

may NOT use St George’s software for any purposes for which they are employed by the NHS

may NOT have access to certain software packages on St George’s-based machines, eg IBM SPSS Statistics.
