Please note that the site licence for ESET NOD32 applies to St George’s machines or those home PCs owned by St George’s and/or used exclusively for work purposes – it does not cover installation on personal PCs.

What is ESET NOD32 Antivirus?

ESET NOD32 Antivirus is the new antivirus/antispyware software we are deploying on all Windows-based PCs onsite at St George’s. Moving our systems to ESET NOD32 Antivirus will result in better protection against virus threats, combined with noticeable improvements to computer performance because of the less resource-hungry software footprint.

Can I use ESET NOD32 Antivirus on my home computer?

St George’s only supplies antivirus software for use on computers connected to our network, either from a wired (Ethernet) or wireless (JRS) connection onsite, or via the VPN service offsite.

NOD32 Antivirus will not work correctly on non-St George’s-networked computers, and you will be vulnerable to virus attacks.

There are a number of free antivirus packages available on the internet which you can use on your home computer, such as Avast Home Edition and AVG Free, but please remember that we do not support home machines.

What firewall ports does ESET NOD32 Antivirus use?

If you use a software firewall, you will need to unblock ports 2221 and 2222 to allow NOD32 Antivirus to receive virus definition updates from our management server. Your firewall software should prompt you to do this automatically after NOD32 Antivirus is installed.

The status icon for ESET NOD32 Antivirus has changed colour. What does this mean?

Normally the NOD32 Antivirus icon in the bottom right of your screen is green, meaning your computer has maximum protection against viruses.

If the icon turns yellow, NOD32 Antivirus is still protecting your computer but one or more of the recommended protection features are disabled and may be exposing you to added risk. Clicking on the icon will give you instructions to allow you to restore maximum protection for your system.

If the icon turns red, there is a more serious issue and your computer is vulnerable to virus threats. Again, clicking on the icon will give you instructions to restore maximum protection for your system. If after following these instructions your icon does not return to the green status, you should contact IT/AV Support.
