Joining the library
To join as a member of NHS staff, fill in our online registration form. We may need to see your Trust ID badge on your first visit to complete your registration and set-up swipe access.
Who can join?
Staff and placement students of the following organisations are welcome to join us:

St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, including community-based staff and attached social care staff

South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust
-
GP practice and clinical commissioning staff in Wandsworth (subject to change in 2021/22)
- Royal Trinity Hospice staff (from October 2021)
Reference access is available to other NHS and attached social care staff in South West London. Please note that NHS library membership does not normally include off-campus access to the majority of university electronic resources, due to publisher restrictions, unless you have an honorary contract or title with St. George's, University of London.

evidence searches and alerts to support clinical activity and decision-making via our Clinical and Research Enquiry Service (CARES)

dedicated study and work space, including 24-hour access to computing, scanning and copying services (see Using the library for details)

interlibrary loan and an NHS article request service

KnowledgeShare evidence updatesand other current awareness services to help you keep up to date with developments in your area

BMJ Best Practice and UpToDate now available to all St George's NHS staff via NHS OpenAthens.
NHS Knowledge and Library Hub
The NHS Knowledge and Library Hub connects NHS England staff and learners for the first time to high quality knowledge and evidence resources in one place.
Funded by Health Education England, the platform contains the following features:
- journals, books and databases
- clinical decision support resources including NICE Guidelines and BMJ Best Practice (NHS access)
- resources purchased nationally and locally such as Royal Marsden Manual and UpToDate
- one-click links to access articles, request pdfs of articles not readly available, or to contact the library

NHS OpenAthens
If you work for the NHS, or are a student on placement, you can access a wide variety of clinical support tools, healthcare databases, journals and e-books from anywhere with an NHS OpenAthens password.

Registering for OpenAthens is a two-step process.

Self-register for an NHS OpenAthens account via an online form. Register from an NHS computer, or use an NHS email address, to receive your account details immediately.

Once registered and deemed eligible, you will receive an email with a time-limited activation link. Follow the link to activate your account, accept the OpenAthens terms and conditions and create a password.

To reset your OpenAthens password, visit the OpenAthens login page and click on "Forgot Password".
NHS Journals A-Z
Use this A-Z search tool to discover which journals you have access to using your NHS OpenAthens account. Log in to OpenAthens before searching to retrieve accurate results. Self-register using this online form if you do not already have an OpenAthens account.
LibKey Nomad
LibKey Nomad is a browser extension that provides automatic access to the content of full-text articles made available via NHS OpenAthens, bought either locally courtesy of St George's Library or nationally when researching on the internet. Download today for fast, once click access to articles.
NHS Article Request Service
NHS staff can request articles available from the St George's, University of London collections. Search for articles using Hunter, the library search tool, and submit your requests using the online form.
