The Wellcome Trust and five other partner charities made funds available to pay open access publication charges through the Charity Open Access Fund (COAF) grant from October 2014 to September 2020. This page records the funders who were in the COAF partnership at the time it ceased.
Applying for funds for open access publication fees
COAF was a coalition to enable payment of open access fees for original peer-reviewed research articles and non-commissioned review articles arising from the research grants of the following funders:
- Blood Cancer UK (formerly Bloodwise)
- Breast Cancer Now (ceased its arrangement to reimburse open access charges from the COAF grant on 1 October 2016)
- British Heart Foundation
- Cancer Research UK
- Parkinson's UK
- Versus Arthritis (formerly Arthritis Research UK)
- Wellcome Trust.
Up to date policies for open access for all these funders can be found by following links on the Europe PMC Funders web page.
Please see our Wellcome Trust web page for further guidance on their open access policy, which was updated January 2021.
Eligible SGUL researchers can take advantage of several ‘read and publish’ deals, which means SGUL corresponding authors can publish open access at no extra charge with some publishers (such as CUP, OUP, Springer, Wiley). Please see our Paying Open Access Fees web page for more information on the journals included.
Please contact us if you have queries on the open access requirements of your funder before submission.
