The JRES Enterprise and Innovation team provides professional and experienced support on all intellectual property-related matters and commercial research endeavours at St George’s, University of London and St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, both to our academic and clinical researchers and to interested external parties.

Dr Ambalika Batra is the Head of Enterprise and Innovation and leads on knowledge exchange and innovation activity at St George’s. With a background in virology and diagnostics, Ambi has a range of experience working in research institutes, universities and biotech start-ups where she has supported start-ups, managed commercialisation of novel technology and lead on development of strategy and strategic partnerships.
Howard Duffy is the Senior Partnership and Enterprise Manger. His role is to lead on the development of a network of strategic partners as well as managing the enterprise programmes being offered by St Georges. As an experienced business consultant helping start-ups grow and reach funding targets, Howard also supports entrepreneurial staff and students to achieve their start-up goals.
Dr Khalid Shukri is the Senior Innovation and IP Commercialisation Manager and is the lead on commercialisation activity across St George’s University and St George’s NHS Trust.
He has a wealth of experience working both in the UK and the USA; leading teams in setting up several spin out companies, raising external funding to accelerate technology development and scale up, and building a patent portfolio and commercial exploitation through licensing with multinational companies. Dr Khalid graduated from University College London with a BSc Honours degree in chemistry and a PhD in chemistry/materials science in nanomaterial sensor fabrication.
Beth Richards is an Innovation and Intellectual Property Officer. She oversees the university's patent portfolio, liaises with both academics and patent attorneys to facilitate intellectual property protection, and collates information that contributes to contractual agreements. Beth has a BA in French Language Studies and has previously worked in the IP sector in European Patent Validations.
