Our Fund for St George's exists to offer flexible financial support where it is needed most. Each year, our donors entrust their money to the University through this fund to respond to the needs of our students, and this year we’ve needed this more than ever.
Recently, contributions to our Fund for St George's have enabled us to loan 25 new laptops to students who would otherwise struggle to access online resources, as well as funding over 100 Care Packages to be sent to students in isolation. These Care Packages have made great strides towards helping students feel a part of the St George’s community and reminding them that we are thinking of them as they enter isolation.
"At a time where student anxiety and stress levels are high, these isolation packs have certainly brought a little bit of happiness. Our little gifts have brought a spark of entertainment and with the Welfare Support signposting included in our boxes, it has made it really easy for students to reach out when they are feeling low during isolation." Sarah Jones, Vice President for Education (Student's Union)

St George’s takes pride in being more than just a place to earn a degree. We aim to attract students who relish the opportunity to broaden their horizons beyond the curriculum and have an impact on their community and the wider world.
One example of impact from our Fund for St George's is that it enables us to enhance the student experience by funding an annual Conference Fund to which students can apply.
"As a penultimate year medical student, having the ability to present a poster at the 2019 British Trauma Society Meeting in Nottingham benefited my personal and professional development tremendously. Not only was I able to boost my confidence and presentation skills, I also had the pleasure of meeting like-minded medical students, surgeons, and physicians from across all of the UK. Thank you to every donor who made it possible for me to attend my first ever poster presentation (hopefully the first of many)!" Vincent Chang, Conference Fund recipient 2020

St George’s students have a strong tradition of combining their studies with sport. Alongside the recognised physical and mental wellbeing benefits of taking part in sport, St George’s takes considerable pride in enabling students to fulfil their potential, both academically and outside the classroom.
Our Fund for St George's also supports the Alastair Hunter Sports Prize which exists to help meet some of the unique costs associated with competing in sport at an elite level.
"Because of the bursary I was awarded, I was able to stay in cheerleading. Competitive cheerleading is an expensive sport with monthly participation fees, competition entry fees, the cost of uniforms and training equipment. Because of this I had considered resigning from the sport. The Alastair Hunter Sports Bursary has helped to reduce the cost of participation and has helped to facilitate my first season as a level 3 athlete." Hannah Gyekye-Mensah, Alastair Hunter Sports Bursary recipient 2019-20
