Empowering Collaboration through co-design
At City St George’s, University of London, we believe in the power of participatory research (PR) to drive meaningful change. Our dedicated resources aim to support researchers in applying participatory methods effectively, enhancing the impact of their work. Whether you are new to PR or have used this approach before, this hub has something for you!
What is Participatory Research?
Participatory research encompasses research designs and methods that involve direct collaboration with those affected by the issues being studied. This approach not only engages researchers but also includes those who represent the interests of the communities involved, fostering a truly collaborative environment. PR prioritises the voices and insights of those directly impacted, enabling research that is both relevant and transformative.
Why does it matter?
While participatory research is gaining traction, it is often not thoroughly described or evaluated. However, when executed effectively, it aligns research goals with end-user needs, reduces research waste, and delivers greater value for funding bodies. Despite the growing interest in participatory methods, the terminology can sometimes feel vague. Many researchers struggle to confidently select and articulate their methods. Our resources aim to clarify these approaches and demonstrate how participatory methods can enhance research outcomes.
