A picture of Chris Redmond.Chris Redmond is currently working as a Senior Cardiac Physiologist within the NHS. He assists in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with heart disease.

As a child, Chris spent several years in and out of hospital after being diagnosed with multiple autoimmune conditions, which started his interest in pursuing a career in healthcare.

Chris says, “After becoming severely unwell in 2013 during my final years of high school and missing my GCSE exams, I found out I was diagnosed with Chronic Ulcerative Colitis, a condition that can be exacerbated and made worse by stress.”

“I struggled for many years trying to manage stress within my life, which has led to me suffering from bouts of stress related illness and at times, some long stays as in hospital while severely unwell. The worst of these instances occurred 2 weeks prior to me sitting my second-year exams.”

“Stress at times has directly impacted my own mental and physical health, hampering my ability to work, study and pursue my hobbies. However, through maintaining a healthy work-life balance, I have managed to minimise stress and focus on my own wellbeing.”

“After finding ways to cope with stress, I managed to achieve many goals, including competing at the university championships and nationally for the St George’s Karate Club and graduating with a first-class honours’ degree.”

Since graduating from St George’s, Chris has achieved a senior position within 6 months and iscurrently working towards specialising in the field of cardiac devices and pacemakers.

In the future, I hope to do more work speaking about mental and physical health and wellbeing, while continuing to work hard for the NHS.
