Francesca Humfrey is a Medical Interpreter and Freelance Translator, currently working in Spain. She works primarily in the Emergency department, providing translation services for foreign patients. She also volunteers with Translation Without Borders, an organisation offering free translation to International Emergency relief programs and charities.
Francesca graduated from St George’s University in 2016 with a degree in Biomedical Science and returned to Spain, where she had worked during her gap year, in order to study towards her Spanish language certification. In order to fund her studies, she worked as a light and sound technician within an Events company, using skills honed through her role as Technical Officer during her time working with the St George’s Student union. After obtaining her language certification, she acquired her current position as a Spanish-German-French-English Interpreter, working at one of the largest Hospitals in Tenerife alongside more than 20 other colleagues, in order to bridge the language gap between Spanish medical professionals and their foreign patients.
Francesca is also finishing her Masters degree in Translation and, thanks to her Bachelors degree in Biomedicine, will be able to specialise as a scientific translator on graduating.
