Jacob began on his path to academic research by doing an Integrated Masters in cell biology at UCL. During that time, he did an internship in a lab at LSHTM, was the academic secretary of UCL’s Biology Society, and completed a research project in the IHA. Jacob says, "I learned valuable skills and bolstered my CV, and this helped me to secure a place on the MRC LID doctoral training scheme.
