It is with great sadness that we record the death of Her Majesty The Queen. Our thoughts are with members of Her Majesty’s family at a time of great personal loss.
Her Majesty was a committed supporter of our University, opening St George’s Hospital Medical School when the University relocated from Hyde Park Corner in November 1980 and visiting again in December 2002 to mark the culmination of the University’s 250th anniversary events. During her visit, The Queen was invited to unveil a sculpture commemorating Handing on Skills, Ideas and Ideals which is still much admired today and can be seen at the University entrance.
A letter of condolence is being sent to Our Chancellor, Her Royal Highness Princess Anne, and we are considering University and campus operations during the period of national mourning, which will be shared with you in the coming days.
Campus is open as usual and scheduled activities tomorrow will be going ahead as planned.
