To mark 21 years of Graduate Entry Medicine at St George’s, we will be sharing the stories, reflections and achievements of our unique programme community. In September, Third Year Graduate Entry Medicine student and Year 2 representative for her course, Josie Price, interviewed MBBS alumnus, Professor Mike Grocott and Graduate Entry Medicine alumna, Captain Bryony Hastings in a live Q&A as part of our Alumni Perspectives series. The event was an opportunity for alumni, staff and students to hear from two alumni who have pursued unique and fascinating career paths in Medicine, taking them on expeditions all over the world.
Josie previously studied BSc Biochemistry at the University of Birmingham. She then moved on to study MA Law at the University of Law before joining the Graduate Entry Medicine programme and says:
“Graduate Entry Medicine gave me the amazing opportunity to explore different career avenues before deciding on one path. It’s been particularly interesting working at St George’s as it was the first University to have opened Medicine to postgraduates 21 years ago.”
Josie, who successfully applied for a research grant from the University to conduct a study into medical education, adds: “Whilst my cohort were unable to be taught in-person during first year, St George’s has given students many opportunities to immerse themselves in further study.”
Speaking about her experience as a student interviewer, Josie said:
“I am very grateful to have had the chance to volunteer for this event. I really appreciate being able to play a part in the Graduate Entry Medicine 21st Anniversary celebrations - it reminds me of how lucky I am to be studying a course at St George’s that was the first of its kind in the UK!”
