Final year students have indicated record levels of positivity across every aspect of their academic life in this year’s National Student Survey (NSS).

Overall, St George’s has risen 22 places to over 78% positivity and seen tremendous increases of up to 50 places for many of the themes explored.

The NSS is a survey of all final year undergraduates in the UK and gathers students’ opinions on the quality of their courses. Results were released last week and are publicly available on the Office for Students website.

Teaching is again the area of greatest positivity at 86% and Assessment and Feedback also saw a 7% increase compared to last year. A highlight this year is a 10% increase in positivity with Student Voice, as well as a 6% positivity increase in Organisation and management and a 4% increase in positivity in Learning opportunities.

These good results were sustained across courses and included incredibly high overall positivity levels in Clinical Pharmacology (95%) Healthcare Science (94%) and Radiotherapy and Oncology (91%).

Professor Jane Saffell, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Education said:

“It is a joy to see such big improvements in this year’s NSS, and across every single theme."

Thank you to our final year students – your rich feedback will fuel our ongoing improvement work.

- Professor Jane Saffell -

"Thank you to the academic and professional services staff teams across the university whose sustained work to enhance courses, reform processes and improve the learning environment is clearly bearing fruit for students.”

From 1 August 2024, we will be merging with City, University of London, who also saw very positive results including a 2% increase in their overall positivity score to over 80%. Our merger will create a ‘health powerhouse’ for students, researchers, the NHS and partners and one of the largest destinations for students in the capital.

Christine Swabey, Chair of our governing body Council, said:

“This is the best possible news for St George’s, our staff and our students as we move onto a new phase in our long and proud history."

Congratulations to staff, Students’ Union and all those who have contributed to these excellent results.

- Christine Swabey -

It is so pleasing to see this positive feedback from the students and a proud moment for our whole St George’s community.”
