About the campaign
Our annual telephone fundraising campaign is taking place from Monday 26 April until Sunday 16 May.
Our campaigns offer an exciting opportunity for students to make connections with alumni and fundraise for student causes at St George’s.
Our team of student callers will be speaking to our alumni about their journey after St George’s and updating them on some of our news, as well as talking about impact they could have on St George’s through donations to our annual fund.
We know that there is an increasing demand from students for hardship and mental health and wellbeing support as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Because of this, we will be focusing this year’s fundraising efforts on these areas, as well as supporting our doctoral students, a cohort whose studies have been particularly disrupted by the pandemic.
Our doctoral research students are facing significant delays to their research, and their time-limited living stipends are running out, putting the completion of their studies in jeopardy.
Meet our student callers
We spoke to some of the student callers involved in this year’s campaign to hear from them about what attracted them to the role, and why they feel strongly about these student causes.
Ify Osefoh, Biomedical Science student
Ify is a third year Biomedical Science student and returning student caller.
“I decided to apply for the student caller role again this year because of the great experience I had previously. It’s an amazing opportunity to meet people from different degrees, whilst gaining communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills, that will aid you throughout your future career.”
“This role allows you to develop your skillset whilst being able to raise money to help students who really need it. The importance of this campaign has really been shown through the pandemic, as the money raised in previous years has been able to really help today’s students. It is really nice to see how your actions can truly impact someone’s life.”
Krishen Mistry, Biomedical Science student
Second Year Biomedical Science student and Treasurer of the St George’s Tamil Society, Krishen Mistry, joined the team to give back to St George’s.
“The role will also enable me to help my fellow and aspiring students by limiting the burden of financial worries so that their education can remain their top priority. As an aspiring medic, I believe that the experience gained from this role will help me develop my existing communication skills. Improving lives is one of the key NHS values, and I believe this role does exactly that.”
Chantal Salira, Medicine Student
Second year Medicine student Chantal Salira is one of the Student Union's Equality and Diversity Officers who has supported campaigns such as the university’s Black History Month and International Women’s Day.
“I decided to become a student caller because I like talking and it's a good cause! Learning the numerous ways in which alumni donations contribute to welfare services at St George's, has me especially excited to meet the people behind it.”
