Published: 01 August 2024

Why have we merged?

The voluntary merger has enabled us to become one of the largest higher education destinations for London students, and a powerful multi-faculty institution with a distinctive focus on professional education and research at the frontier of practice.

About the merger in brief

  • City St George’s, University of London came into being on 1 August 2024 and comprises the activities previously undertaken by City, University of London and St George’s, University of London.
  • The President of City St George’s, University is Professor Sir Anthony Finkelstein and the Chair of Council is Professor Ian Jacobs.
  • The full external launch of the new university will be in March 2025. This will include a new university website with a new URL.
  • City Students’ Union and St George’s Students’ Union have also merged, to form City St George’s Students’ Union, effective from 1 August 2024. Their new website is www.csgsu.co.uk
  • ‘City, University of London’ and ‘St George’s, University of London’ will continue as trading names until the launch of City St George’s, University of London next year.
  • The new brand and visual identity of City St George’s will be phased in from 1 August 2025.
  • Arrangements for current students and incoming students in 2024 are unaffected: their course and location of study is unchanged.
  • Campus names will be introduced. Northampton Square and environs will be the Clerkenwell campus, Bayes Business School (Bunhill Row and Finsbury Square) will be the Moorgate campus and the current St George’s campus will be referred to as the ‘Tooting campus’ of City St George’s.
  • St George’s staff and students will join the current School of Health & Psychological Sciences to form a new integrated School to be known as the School of Health & Medical Sciences.
  • The new School will launch during 2025.

Information for prospective students

Current and prospective students will automatically be members of City St George’s, University of London. Our terms and conditions of study have changed to reflect the new name but there are no other substantive changes.

For the 2024/25 academic year we will be ‘dual running’. This essentially means that all supporting policies and procedures for students will remain as previously operated by St George’s (for St George’s programmes) and City (for City programmes). This is because full integration of systems and processes will take some time.

Our programmes and the location of study remain unchanged, as does student access to support services.

Entry for programmes in 2024 and 2025

Prospective students applying to programmes in 2024 and 2025 which were previously offered by City, University of London should continue to refer to the City website until 3 March 2025, at which point the new website for City St George’s will be launched. Similarly, prospective students applying for programmes in 2024 and 2025 previously offered by St George’s, University of London should continue to refer to the St George’s website until 3 March 2025, at which point the website for City St George’s will be launched.

Undergraduate programmes and Postgraduate programmes that apply through UCAS for 2024 and 2025 will continue to be through City, University of London (C60) or St George’s, University of London (S49) as appropriate.

Postgraduate applications for 2024 and 2025 will also continue to be through St George’s, University of London or City, University of London as appropriate. Applications can be made on the relevant website.

Clearing 2024

Students wishing to apply to City St George’s in Clearing this August should refer to the current City Clearing website for programmes previously offered by City, University of London and to the current St George’s Clearing website hub for programmes previously offered by St George’s, University of London.

For the foreseeable future, activities across health and medicine will continue at their current locations, across our Clerkenwell and Tooting (St George’s) sites. This means that there are no changes for students of either City’s School of Health and Psychological Sciences, or St George’s, University of London, i.e. their studies will be exclusively located at either Clerkenwell or Tooting respectively, as previously.

Further information about the merger, including answers to a range of questions is available on the Student Hub.
