Baba is a Professor of Digital Education and Transformation, recognised for leading strategic initiatives that enhance learning through technology and innovation. He is currently the Director of Digital Transformation (secondment) at the newly merged City St George’s, University of London, having previously served as Director of Digital Education at St George’s. In these roles, he guided online transitions during the COVID-19 pandemic, established governance structures for digital education, and secured major funding for campus-wide transformation projects. A scholar-practitioner, he has held academic leadership positions in private higher education and also undertaken consultancy engagements. He holds a PhD in Management and Governance from the University of Twente, and is a trustee of two NGOs.
Baba is a Professor of Digital Education and Transformation (Chair conferred October 2024), recognised for leading strategic initiatives that enhance learning through technology and innovation. He currently serves as Director of Digital Transformation (secondment) at the newly merged City St George’s, University of London.
Previously, he was Director of Digital Education at St George’s, overseeing the planning, implementation and resourcing of the University’s digital education strategy. This included leading the Centre for Technology in Education (CTiE) and the Professional Education Centre (PEC). He has also held academic leadership roles in private higher education, alongside undertaking consultancy engagements.
His contributions include guiding the transition to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, establishing governance structures for digital education, delivering transformation initiatives that bridge physical and virtual environments, and expanding professional education portfolios. These efforts have led to improvements in student experience and institutional success. More recently, he helped secure a £5.8m three-year grant from the Office for Students to advance ‘digital on-campus’ initiatives.
Baba holds a PhD in Management and Governance from the University of Twente in the Netherlands. He is an alumnus of three UK universities: King’s College London (PgCAP), University of Wales (MSc Finance and Accounting, Distinction), and the University of Hull (BSc Hons in Business Management and Information Technology, First Class).
As a scholar-practitioner, he serves as a trustee for two NGOs and was a member of the Council of St George’s (2021–2024), steering the merger with City, University of London. With a focus on collaboration and scalable solutions, his leadership has been recognised across academia and industry. In early 2024, he was awarded the Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy by Advance HE.
