Dr Daniel Berwick

Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences

Dr Berwick joined St George's in 2020. He works on the Biomedical Science course as Online Education Lead, Year 1 Chief Examiner, ISP Lead (Year 2), and as Lead for Research Project in Physiological Sciences (Year 3). His research interests are in ageing and neurodegeneration. 

Dr Dan Berwick obtained a PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Bristol, before undertaking postdoctoral positions at the University of Columbia and University College London. He then held the position of Lecturer in Health Sciences at the Open University, before joining St George's in 2020.

Dr Berwick's research interests concern the molecular bases of ageing and neurodegeneration, in particular Parkinson's disease, using molecular and cell biological approaches. He also has interests in cell signalling mechanisms and mathematical approaches to biology.

Dr Berwick teaches on the Biomedical Science, Clinical Pathology and Physician's Associate courses, where he specialised in basic cell and molecular biology, and biochemistry. His teaching interests include remote education, examinations, and use of animations.
