If you’re moving into Horton Halls, we’ve put together directions at the bottom of this page to help you get there by train, plane, bus, bike or car.
In order to keep residents safe during the moving in process, we’ll be offering booking slots to move in starting a week before your start date. If you need to arrive even earlier, perhaps because you’re flying into the UK before term starts, please let us know. We can arrange for that to happen.
When you arrive at halls, you’ll be greeted by staff and shown where to pick up keys. As well as checking in, you’ll be asked to complete an inventory for your room. It’s a list of everything included in your room and its condition when you arrive. Checking this list thoroughly will help make sure you get your full deposit back at the end of the academic year. That includes any adaptations you need and which you asked us to make when you signed your License Agreement. If something’s not right please tell us, so we can get it sorted out.
Moving into a new place can feel tiring and overwhelming, but it’s also a great opportunity to meet other students. Introduce yourself to your flatmates and you’ll feel more settled and more at home.
Your flatmates are going to be especially important this year. Our Resident Advisors will be encouraging activities for everyone to get to know each other and get along.
There are lots of ways to break the ice and get talking to your flatmates – tea is always a great place to start – but the most important thing is to get out of your room and into the kitchen. Say hello and get talking – it may be a cliché, but everyone really is in the same boat.

The sections below explain how to reach halls by car and by public transport.
London Underground
The nearest Tube station is Tooting Broadway, which is about a 20-minute walk from the station to halls. The G1 bus runs to halls from the station, but make sure you get on the bus going towards Battersea or you’ll head off in the wrong direction! Buses 44, 77 and 270 will all take you close enough to Halls to make the walk manageable with luggage. Get off at the stop for Garratt Lane/Wimbledon Road.
By bus
The 155 (from Elephant and Castle), the 280 (from Sutton) and the G1 (from Streatham and Battersea) stop directly outside St George’s. Buses 44, 77 and 270 get you close to halls - jump off at Garratt Lane/Wimbledon Road. Even more buses stop at Tooting Broadway, including routes 57, 127, 131, 219, 264, 333, and 355. From there, see the ‘By tube’ instructions above to get to halls.
By rail
The closest station to halls is Earlsfield. Trains run out from Waterloo and Clapham Junction and in from Kingston, Guildford, Dorking and Woking. It’s about a 15-minute walk from Earlsfield to halls or jump on the 44, 77 or 270 to the stop at Garratt Lane/Wimbledon Road.
By bike
Cycling info can be found on the TFL website. Cycling is the fastest way to get from halls to the main St George’s campus, and there’s secure bike storage at both places.
By car
If you’re bringing your stuff to halls by car, the closest major roads are the A3 from the West, M23/A23 from the South and A2 from the East. If you’ve got SatNav, the postcode for halls is SW17 0BD. Parking at halls is very limited, but there are spaces for parking up while you unload your things and take them to your room. It gets quite busy the weekend before term starts, so it would be great if you could move your car after you’ve unloaded – there are pay and display spaces nearby.
From Halls to St George’s
The most straightforward way of getting to St George’s from halls is to walk. The walk takes 10 to 15-minutes depending on how late you’re running!
A great way to save time is to get a bike – there’s secure bike parking at halls (just ask reception) and not one but two bike sheds just around the corner from the main campus entrance. You’ll need a code to access these – just ask at the Student Centre.
If you need to use the bus, the G1 runs every 15-minutes or so, from just outside Halls to the main campus entrance. It doesn’t take a direct route, so it’s not as fast as walking. To travel to St George’s from halls make sure you get on the bus going to Streatham, and then take the bus going towards Battersea on the way back.
