Our radiography facilities are unparalleled among Higher Education Institutions in England and will help radiography students at St George’s make the transition into work. The recent £1.3 million investment means the facilities in the Radiography Suite mirror those found in Radiography departments of hospitals around the UK.
The therapeutic simulation facilities include a purpose built immersive Virtual Environment for Radiotherapy Education. This provides a virtual radiotheraphy treatment room allowing students to familiarise themselves with equipment they would use in practice.
The department also has a state-of-the-art treatment planning suite of computers equipped with software used in the clinical setting. It enables students to generate individual ‘patient’ plans for radiation treatment as well as match imaging taken during treatment.
The new Diagnostic Radiography facilities include four ultra-sound machines, a mobile x-ray machine and an image intensifier. These allow students to fully simulate an x-ray as it would take place in a clinical setting without the harmful radiation complete with a mannequin containing a simulation of human bones.
You can watch Therapeutic Radiography course lead, Julie Hendry, run through some of the new facilities in the Radiography Suite in her vlog with Principal Jenny Higham.
