We’re based in Tooting, South West London. This is in Zone 3 on the tube, about 25 minutes away from central London. We are concentrated on a single campus, unlike most city universities.

We share a site with one of the UK’s largest teaching hospitals, St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We have a range of facilities, including: teaching rooms, state-of-the-art simulation spaces and laboratories. We also have facilities for research, student support and socialising. 

We have more than 5,000 students across all of our subjects and CPD (Continuing Professional Development) courses.

Most of our courses run from September to June or July, although term dates vary slightly by course and year of study. You will be given your timetable before starting your course.

Some students can manage a part-time job alongside their studies – but this will depend on your timetable and workload. Because of the varied nature of our courses, students may find that casual work provides the most flexibility. 

St George’s has a well-developed Student Ambassador scheme which provides flexible work for many of our students. This can range from giving directions at Open Days and leading campus tours to visiting schools to deliver workshops and training.

It is important to keep in mind that most of our students spend a large amount of time on placement. During placement periods, you are be expected to be available full-time, and this can limit your availability for part-time work.

If you choose to work alongside your studies, it’s important to find a balance and to ensure that you always put your studies first.

Students usually move into their accommodation the weekend before term starts. Our Students’ Union organises a fantastic range of welcome events for new students. These include meet and greets, club nights, parties at the Students’ Union bar on campus and the popular Freshers’ Fair, where our clubs and societies show you what they’ve got to offer.

During this week, you will also have induction lectures and classes with your tutors and course mates.

Our halls of residence, Horton Halls, are located approximately 15 minutes’ walk from the campus. They consist of 332 standard en suite rooms and 154 premium rooms, divided into flats of four to eight people.

Undergraduate home and EU students, as well as international undergraduate and postgraduate students, are prioritised for places at Horton Halls in their first year.

Most of these students will secure a room at Horton Halls.

We have a number of women-only and male-only flats available. Our accommodation team will try to ensure that everyone who requests a room in a single-gender flat is accommodated.

When you join St George’s, you automatically become a member of St George’s Students’ Union, the recognised body which represents all our students.

As well as great facilities such as the SU bar, dance studio, music room and rec room, the Union offers volunteering opportunities, events, activities and advice for students.

Counselling

Although studying is very rewarding, we know it can also be stressful. To help you get through any difficulties, we offer all students a confidential counselling service.

Faith

Open to students and staff of all faiths or none, the St George’s Chaplaincy represents the main faith communities on campus. Our Students’ Union also has a number of faith societies which provide students with an opportunity to support each other spiritually, discuss and debate faith issues, and hold events.

Mentoring

St George’s has a tradition of mentoring incoming students, where new students are supported by established ones and helped to settle in. You will be paired up with student ‘parents’ during your first week who can answer questions and provide support.
