What does it involve?
Healthcare Dissected is a programme for 14-16-year-old students interested in science and healthcare. Targeted at young people from geographical areas where there are low participation rates in higher education, the programme takes place online and aims to introduce young people to a range of science and healthcare topics, while learning more about university life.
The programme starts with a series of online workshops, supported by the Image Resource Facility, who will introduce students to a different organ or body part each week. Students will have the opportunity to examine organ tissues before hearing from researchers on different health conditions.
Students will also find out more about our degree courses, attend mini taster sessions on a range of topics and attend workshops on university life. Support from the Outreach and Widening Participation team will continue as students’ progress into Year 12 and 13 and schools involved will be invited to a range of events and activities.
Who is it for?
Schools are invited to participate if their school aligns with the St George’s Widening Participation team’s objectives; for example, if the school has a high number of pupils who live in low participation neighbourhoods. These are geographical areas of England with low progression rates into higher education.
