The staff laptop loan scheme, managed by Library Services, will provide St George's, University of London staff with a short-term laptop loan for remote and onsite working purposes. There is a general expectation that departments will purchase a laptop for their staff for long-term use.

Staff laptop loan policy

This policy outlines the responsibilities that St George’s, University of London staff must accept when they are issued a staff laptop loan.

The circumstances under which a staff laptop will be loaned are listed below, along with all associated conditions and responsibilities that are placed on either the borrower, or their department.

Eligibility criteria

A laptop will be loaned under the following circumstances.

You:

  • are a new member of staff, waiting for your new laptop or desktop to arrive
  • are a temporary member of staff (six months or less)
  • do not have access to your normal laptop or desktop e.g., it’s being repaired
  • have a desktop but require a laptop for a meeting or event
  • are a member of staff who requires a laptop for St George's business purposes.
Terms
  • Laptops are for loan only.
  • Library membership is required for a staff laptop loan. If you are not a member of the library, you will be required to complete a Library registration form. Please allow up to two working days for your registration to be processed.
  • Laptops must be collected from the Library Helpdesk between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.
  • To borrow the laptop, you must show your staff ID card.
  • Laptops will be issued to your library record for a duration of three (3) months.
  • Laptop renewals will be considered but are dependent on waiting lists and stock levels. Renewals must be requested via email to library@sgul.ac.uk.
  • Before taking off-site, staff loan laptops must be taken to IT to be set-up for remote working. Please ensure you book an appointment with the ITAV Support Team via email to ITAV@sgul.ac.uk or go to their drop-in in room J0.27 from 12-2pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Laptops must be returned to the Library Helpdesk between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.
  • IT regulations and policies  should be adhered to at all times.
  • The borrower is responsible for the care and security of the device, including loss, theft, and damage, until it is returned to the University. If the laptop is damaged or lost, please report this immediately via email to library@sgul.ac.uk.
  • If the borrower fails to return the equipment on time and in the same condition as it was initially received, the department may be charged for the value of the equipment.
