Depending on the cohort size, some examinations take place across more than one examination venue, so please check your email invitation for your exact location. In addition, some students with exam arrangements may be sat in a different exam venue.
Some exams for larger cohorts also require the exam to be run in mutiple sittings with students being required to report to a 'holding venue' if they are taking the exam in the later sittings, so please check your email invitation for your exact details.
Your candidate number is a unique 5-digit number used for assessments and specifically relates to you. This number is used for marking purposes to allow anonymity. The candidate number will also be used to identify your desk within your exam venue, and you should ensure you know your number before entering the venue.
Your candidate number is sent to you by email at the start of the academic year and will also appear on your exam invitation which was emailed to you prior to the exam sitting.
Yes, the Exams Calendar is for guidance only and is subject to change. You must refer to your official examination invitation / notification from the Registry for the exact time and venue of your exams.
If you feel unwell during the examination, you must notify the invigilator. They will decide on the best course of action to take and contact the Exams Office accordingly.
Student are advised to look at the guidance on the
Extenuating/Mitigating Circumstances page further information.
The lockdown browser is a simple app that will prevent you from accessing other websites and applications during your exam (i.e. SBAs and SAQs).
For the vast majority of students, the lockdown browser won't make any difference to their exam experience, and if anything is likely to be helpful, as it will prevent distractions. But most importantly, the lockdown browser will prevent students from finding answers via the internet.
No all exams must be taken on a computer and typed.
The less the better.
All equipment needed will be provided for you during your CCAs/OSCE. All we require you to bring with you is your student ID card. If you wish, you can bring a nurse’s 'fob' watch, a stethoscope and a water bottle.
Phones and smart watches are not permitted during these examinations and must be removed along with coats and bags before entering. We recommend that you try to bring as little with you as possible as we cannot ensure the safety of these items and cannot be held responsible should anything get lost.
Students who believe that their examination marks meet grounds for review may be eligible to request this under the Academic Appeal Procedure.
Before submitting an appeal, please visit the Academic Appeal Procedure pages.
You can view the Exams Calendar to find out what date your exams will be held on.
For exams administered by the Exams Office, you will receive an email invitation / notification to your exam in the weeks leading up to the exam day. This email will contain important information regarding your exam including the time and location.
For exams which are not administered by the Exams Office, you are advised to contact your individual course team for further information.
You need to bring your student ID card to all examinations and place it on your desk. Invigilators will check your ID during the exam.
Please report a lost or damaged ID card to the main university reception as soon as possible, so that a replacement can be arranged. For more information please see the ID Card webpage.
Where there is not enough time to get a new ID card before your exam, the only other acceptable forms of ID are a passport or a photo driving licence. If you do not have access to these then please arrive to your exam as early as possible and make yourself known to an invigilator who will be able to make alternative arrangements to verify who you are.
Depending on the individual exam, calculators may be allowed. This will be stated in the exam instruction on the day. Please ask the invigilators in the exam venue should you need clarification. For some exams you may be provided with a calculator.

Failure to arrive at the holding room by the time stated in your exam invitation / notification will result in you being unable to sit the exam.
Make sure you allow time for delays caused by traffic and weather conditions when planning your journey.
Mobile phones should be placed in your bags, and left in the designated area, or handed in to invigilator. Unless it is not permitted for specific exams, you will find a piece of A4 paper with your candidate number on your desk. You are able to make notes, draw diagrams, perform calculations, etc as you wish, but the paper will be collected at the end of the exam. Should you require an additional piece of paper, please raise your hand and ask an invigilator.
For some exams, mainly of an essay format, you may be required to use your paper to draw diagrams, take a photo of the paper (using the webcam) and upload it at the end of the exam. This process will be explained to you in your exam room should this be the case.
Under no circumstance should any student remove the paper from the exam room. All paper must be collected in at the end of the exam. It will be considered an exam offence if you attempt to remove the paper from the exam room and do not hand it in to invigilators.
Students are not allowed to leave the examination room within the first 30 minutes or the final 20 minutes of the examination, other than for medical reasons and while reminiang under invigilation.
Outside of these times, students are able to have a toilet break and should do so by raising their hand to attract the attention of an invigilator.
For the majority of exams, students can leave their exam early, outside of the times listed above, should they finish their exam. You should raise your hand to attract the attention of an invigilator who will check your exam is submitted and confirm if you are allowed to leave.
PLEASE NOTE: for some exams it is not possible for students to leave early due to either the format or number of exam sittings.
Any student who leaves the exam room and intends to return to the examination must be accompanied by an invigilator at all times. Any student leaving the room unaccompanied will not be allowed to continue the examination.
